High School Curriculum

VCIS High School has two (2) sections (Junior and Senior) each running a three (3) year programme. Both sections operate a curriculum that is knowledge and skills-based and embrace 21st-century education that is beneficial for students. Each curriculum has its major components, the curriculum developed by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) harmonized with the curriculum of notable examinations and test bodies.

Our High School curriculum uses up-to-date teaching methodologies, quality textbooks, materials, and resources. It includes a series of assessments and projects that form part of the total score of the term examinations. It also involves intensive career sessions that guide students on subjects to choose from regarding the careers they intend to pursue. Our unique curriculum is designed to prepare our students for the challenges of tertiary education within the country and around the world.

 
 

Junior high school subjects

The Junior High School has 18 compulsory subjects across its classes (JS1-JS3). The students offer these subjects in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which is taken at the end of the Junior High School programme.

  • Mathematics
  • Business Studies
  • History
  • Igbo language (Asusu Igbo)
  • French Language
  • Christian Religious Studies
  • Basic Science
  • Information Technology
  • Physical and Health Education
  • Cultural and Creative Art (Fine Arts, Drama and Music)
  • National values Education (Civic Education, Social Studies, and Security Education).
  • Pre-Vocational Studies (Agricultural Science and Home Economics)
  • Diction.

Senior high school subjects

The Senior High School programme (SS1-SS3) culminates in external examinations (WAEC/NECO School Certificate Examination and others). By the end of SS2, each student is required to take a minimum of nine (9) subjects following his/her career pathway. Adding and dropping subjects is allowed in SS2. Subject combinations for senior high school students are selected from four (4) major fields of study.

  • Science and Mathematics
  • Technology
  • Humanities
  • Business Studies.

The cross-cutting subjects that are compulsory for all senior high school students are: English Language, General Mathematics, Civic Education, and one Entrepreneurship subject.
