Our founder

The dream of the Late Ichie Barrister Anthony Amaechi Nnaemego (OND, HND, ACA, FCA, LLB, BL), who had a deep passion for the education of the younger generation, culminated in the establishment of Vine Crest Group of Schools. Our founder was a seasoned accountant and lawyer with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and education, which contributed to his huge contribution to education during his lifetime.

Ichie Nnaemego’s love for education drove him to institute a scholarship scheme known as the Nnaemego Scholarship Foundation for indigent students in his home community. Initially, the scheme was supposed to cater to undergraduates in universities and polytechnics, but with many students in other cadres of education finding it difficult to pay their school fees, he changed his mind so that the scheme could also cater to students in different levels of learning, including primary schools.

He pioneered the rehabilitation of the community high school, including the biggest building, which housed the examination hall and offices of the vice principal, bursar, and other principal officers. The buildings were dilapidated, and our founder’s intervention to rebuild them before the state government took over. That was the extent of his interest in education and his love for humanity.

Apart from those who were sponsored by the scholarship Foundation, Barrister Nnaemego paid the fees of so many others including those who went to law school with him. Because he never blew his trumpet, it is difficult to know how many people benefitted from his sponsorship so that today, Reverend Fathers, medical doctors, lawyers, nurses, academics, and many more numbering hundreds cannot forget his contributions to their educational achievements.

His love for education was also extended to his Alma Mater when the old Boys Association undertook several projects in the school. It was such that during the school’s Golden Jubilee Celebration in 2017, he was honored with distinguished awards.

Unarguably, his passion for education was also the reason and motivation behind the establishment of our great schools, Vine Crest International Schools, Awka which cater to all basic levels of education: Nursery, Primary, and High School. Although our founder made his mark in other areas, one of the greatest legacies that he left behind exists in the field of education.

Another remarkable thing about Ichie Barrister Nnaemego is that he is a stickler for discipline, hard work, and excellence. His belief in excellence as a product of hard work and discipline informed the choice of motto he adopted for the schools - Work Hard to Excel.

Today we make bold to say that our founder will always be remembered and cherished in history as a great pillar of the education industry.

Our history

Vine Crest International Schools (VCIS) was established in the year 2016. VCIS commenced operations precisely in September 2016 with one (1) pupil each in the nursery and primary schools. We started with about ten (10) staff including academic and non-academic personnel. From this humble beginning, the school continued to grow steadily as the second and third terms of the session witnessed a remarkable improvement in pupils’ enrolment as well as an increase in staff strength.

To ensure continuity in the delivery of qualitative education, the Board of Directors decided to establish a co-educational secondary school, Vine Crest High School (VCHS). The high school opened in September 2018, and the three schools formed a group under the name Vine Crest International Schools.

Over the years, VCIS has evolved into a vibrant community of learners fostering academic excellence and character. Our facilities have remained top-notch because we have kept a culture of maintaining and improving our facilities in all the schools. With a faculty that is professionally and academically qualified, we have continued to deliver world-class standard education turning out quality products with every set that is graduated across the schools. We are proud to say that our products stand out wherever they find themselves.

Vine Crest Group of Schools is located at Ngozika Housing Estate, Phase 2, Awka (Rockland Estate), a serene environment conducive to learning.

It suffices to mention that VCIS’s history has been a journey of growth and learning. Through various milestones and challenges, our schools remain dedicated to providing qualitative education that prepares our pupils/students for the future. Today, VCIS stands as a symbol of pride and achievement with a good legacy of success and contributions to society. As we cherish our past, we look forward to a future filled with endless possibilities, with a deep commitment to the sustenance of quality to meet the needs of any current trends in educational development.

Accreditation

VCIS is an accredited group of schools that has been rigorously evaluated and we meet the standards and requirements to prepare learners for the target programmes and the deserving certificates.

The accrediting bodies involved are:

  • State Ministry of Education (for TPE, PSLC)

  • West African Examination Council (for SSCE)    

  • National Examination Council (for SSCE)

The process of accreditation involved the review of these areas:

  • Curriculum- The quality of the schools’ curricula

  • Faculty- The qualifications of teachers

  • Learning Environment- Available facilities and support services for students and pupils

  • Student/Pupil Progress- How well students/ pupils are progressing in their studies.
